Generally, we are provided with required references or screenshots for producing the model (or asset group). We started creating the high-poly model, complex models were created part by part to achieve desired quality level and ease of baking maps. Compound models were created by multiple modelling artists to reduce production time. We tried to match the look and feel of our high-poly model to the references with 90 to 95 % of accuracy and that’s why a huge amount of effort was given while creating the measurements, aesthetics, surface values and functionality to make it as perfect as possible.

When the highpoly modeling was done and we were satisfied with the quality, we started retopologizing the model. Lens Studio supports maximum 65,535 vertices in a model. Hence, we tried to keep our models under 10,000 triangles (5,000 polys assuming, model is built with quads) for best performance. In case of complex models, parts were retopologised separately.

          After completion of retopo we started unwrapping the lowpoly model. But, the maximum project size supported by Lens Studio is 4 MB and max supported texture resolution is 2048 X 2048 and that’s why we needed to plan the number and quality of texture maps accordingly. Then the lowpoly models were unwrapped and exported as .obj (or .fbx with grouping). We tried to hide the seam lines at the back side or beneath the model so that they can be less visible.
